This featurette sheds some light on the Aurochs, the titular Beasts of the Southern Wild

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The trailer for BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD is one of the few times I have been truly stumped by a movie. I cannot tell if it looks like a variation of Spike Jonze’s WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE or something wholly unique. Either way, it is on my list of must see movies.

In the trailer we catch brief yet fleeting glimpses of some large boar-like creature referred to as an Auroch. This new behind the scenes featurette gives us some more information on what these monstrous animals are and how they tie into the story of BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD.

Plot: In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.

Written and directed by Benh Zeitlin, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD stars Dwight Henry and breakout child star Quvenzhane Wallis.

BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD is now playing.
