Thor: Love and Thunder: What Did You Think?

Thor: Love and ThunderThor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters and fans have already been flocking to the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe epic. The Taika Waititi film has already grossed $29 million from Thursday previews. That’s the second-best preview launch of 2022, behind only Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which took in $36 million in previews earlier this year.

The Thor sequel finds the God of Thunder on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. His short-lived retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

If you keep track of such things, Thor: Love and Thunder is currently sitting at 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. This places it behind Thor: Ragnarok (93%) and Thor (77%), but slightly ahead of Thor: The Dark World (66%). Our own Chris Bumbray loved the film but admitted that “some hardcore MCU fans might not dig the vibe, and you can expect a little backlash, but for me, this was a total blast.” Bumbray said that Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman take center stage for much of the film, as they should, but that many of the other characters disappear into the background.
