Nine years after the project was first announced, the film HALF TO DEATH, which has been described as a horror take on GROUNDHOG DAY, is finally heading into production with SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE director Christopher Landon at the helm.

We've previously shared the news that Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard would be starring in the film, with Rothe taking on a role that would have been played by Megan Fox if the film had been made in 2007. Now Variety has learned that Rothe and Broussard will be joined in the cast by Ruby Modine (pictured below), Charles Aitken, and Rachel Matthews (above).

Modine and Aitken are both on premium channel TV shows – Modine on Showtime's Shameless, Aitken on Cinemax's The Knick. HALF TO DEATH marks the first screen acting role for Matthews.

Written by Landon and comic book writer Scott Lobdell, HALF TO DEATH centers on

a woman who’s trapped in a vicious cycle of death and must solve the mystery of her own murder before her chances run out.

The 2007 synopsis went like this:

A young college freshman named Teresa is troubled by when she discovers she is living the same day over and over again, one that starts out innocently enough but always ends with her brutal murder by an unknown attacker. Could the murdered be her boyfriend Gregory, who is also sleeping with Teresa's roommate Lori? Or could it be Lori, who is ferociously envious that Gregory might like Teresa more? Maybe it is one of Teresa's classmates, unable to get her attention? Perhaps one of her professors, who cannot consummate their passion for their top student? Or perhaps it's some secret Skull & Bones-type society, who picked Teresa for no good reason to be their ritualistic sacrifice? It's like "Single White Female" meets "Groundhog's Day" meets "Captivity," and certain to be just as terrifying.

The film is being produced by Jason Blum, with Angela Mancuso and John Baldecchi serving as executive producers.
