Thunder Force: McCarthy and Spencer are superheroes in new trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Criminals of the world beware because Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer have gained superpowers. That's right, and there isn't anywhere you can hide. Cancel your plans for the heist, forget about world domination, and get that law degree your parents keep nagging you about.

The first trailer for Netflix's Thunder Force is here, featuring Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer’s Lydia and Emily, former best friends who suddenly gained superpowers through the magic of science. As they become unlikely superheroes, the two of them must band together to stop criminals and super-villains from terrorizing the world.

Joining McCarthy and Spencer for all the comedic superhero shenanigans are the film's villains, including Pom Klementieff, Bobby Cannavale as The King, and Jason Bateman as a friendly foe with lobster hands? Um, okay.

Written and directed by MacCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone, Thunder Force targets the superhero sub-genre and gives it a comedic spin. In addition to slinging jokes faster than a speeding bullet, the film also has McCarthy imbued with super-strength, which you know is going to lead to some ridiculous situations. Like, I don't know, her character throwing a bus across a city. Were there people on that bus? Do you think they'll survive the trip? Probably not. How do you explain this to HR?

I must admit that I'm curious about this one, and will likely watch it once it touches down on Netflix on April 9, 2021. After all, laughs are in short supply these days, and I do love me some superheroes. Let's go!
