Tim Burton says Beetlejuice 2 is closer than ever, but is not a sequel

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Who doesn’t love BEETLEJUICE? As much as I love other films from Tim Burton, BEETLEJUICE may be his masterpiece. It is a genius blend of comedy, horror, and Burton’s trademark visual quirks. For over twenty-five years, we have been wondering if we would ever see another big screen adventure for the ghost with the most and recently it has seemed very possible.

Tim Burton, currently doing the rounds for his latest film BIG EYES, has been asked about the status of BEETLEJUICE 2. Here is what he told Yahoo Movies.

“There’s a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I’m excited about it. I wouldn’t call it so much a sequel, but it’ll have some characters [from the original ‘Beetlejuice’]. It’s a bit too early to say but it’s definitely something that’s on my radar and something I’d love to do.”

Burton also told IGN something similar.

“There is a script,” Burton said, “and I would love to work with [Keaton] again. I think there is now a better chance than ever. I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”

Clearly, there is progress on another BEETLEJUICE but what makes me especially excited is the fact that Tim Burton is not looking at this as a sequel but rather a new story set in the same universe. Seeing Michael Keaton portray his character again is really the only thing I want. I could care less if Winona Ryder or any of the other cast-members came back. Forcing this sequel is not the right decision, but it sounds like Burton is in the right mind set to make this memorable.

Hopefully we get at least another surprise F-bomb in this one.
