As we informed you last month, Godzilla is returning to his original stomping grounds in Japan with Toho’s new big-screen epic GODZILLA 2016. The film promises to be a drastically different version of the Godzilla tale – at least by Toho’s standards – utilizing cutting edge technology to bring the big boy to life. Will he see more screentime here than he did in Gareth Edwards’ version? How could he not?!

In any event, production has officially commenced on the film, as evidenced by the below video of extras in Tokyo fleeing as the unseen beast presumably tears up the city. Can’t help it, this kind of thing puts a smile on my face every time.

Shinji Higuchi and Hideaki Anno are directing GODZILLA 2016, which will be released, you guessed it, next year. Below is an image of what the wrap party will probably look like.
