With the release of AVENGERS: ENDGAME just around the corner, many cinephiles have been wondering what Joe and Anthony Russo will get up to next. As previously reported, the Marvel money-making duo are gearing up for CHERRY, an adaptation of the national bestselling novel of the same name by Nico Walker. In the true life story based on Walker's own life, the author tells of his time as a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme undiagnosed PTSD, and how he fell into opioid addiction and began robbing banks. Now, while their next project certainly does not take place in the MCU, it's been announced today via Variety that Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, is in talks to star in the high-profile project.

Back in August of 2018, AGBO, the studio established by Joe and Anthony Russo, had placed a $1 million flatout purchase for the book. After emerging as the victor of what was said to be a very competitive situation, the Russos landed Jessica Goldberg (THE PATH, REFUGE) as their scriptwriter, whose recent work includes an adaptation of Mohsin Hamid's novel Exit West for AGBO. Goldberg was also the creator and executive producer of Hulu's THE PATH, a series about a man who converts to a controversial following and suffers from a crisis of faith.

In addition to jointly directing the adaptation, the brothers will also produce alongside AGBO’s Mike Larocca.

Meanwhile, after the events of AVENGERS: ENDGAME, Holland will return as the MCU's friendly neighborhood wall-crawler for SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME. Helmed by SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING director Jon Watts, Spidey's newest big screen adventure finds Peter Parker and his friends embarking on a summer vacation to Europe, where Peter finds himself trying to save his friends against a villain known as Mysterio.

CHERRY is expected for a 2020 release.
