TOP GUN, the Tony Scott classic starring Tom Cruise, may have lost the chance at a sequel with Scott’s passing, but we will still be getting Maverick and Iceman on the big screen.

Paramount formally announced that TOP GUN will be re-released in theaters on IMAX screens with a 3D conversion on February 8, 2013. The conversion was supervised by Tony Scott himself from the original negative. The aerial shots in TOP GUN were always amazing and if the conversion by Legend3D was done well, they will look unbelievable in 3D.

The theatrical run will only be for six days after which TOP GUN will premiere on Blu-ray 3D that will also include the remastered 2D version of the movie, a six-part documentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, interviews with Tom Cruise, commentary by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Tony Scott, co-screenwriter Jack Epps, Jr. and more.

TOP GUN stars Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards and Meg Ryan.
