Blumhouse and Prime Video are going back to the future this October when the studio releases Totally Killer, a comedic horror film starring Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of SabrinaMad Men) as a time-traveling final girl trying to save her friends from a slasher’s milestone massacre. Today’s Totally Killer trailer finds Shipka’s Jamie Hughes returning to 1987, hoping to stop the killer before he can claim more victims in the present day.

Here’s the official synopsis for Totally Killer:

Thirty-five years after the shocking murder of three teens, the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer “returns on Halloween night to claim a fourth victim. Seventeen-year-old Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom’s (Julie Bowen) warning and comes face-to-face with the masked maniac and, on the run for her life, accidentally time-travels to 1987, the year of the original killings. Forced to navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of the 1980s, Jamie teams up with her teen mom (Holt) to take down the killer once and for all before she’s stuck in the past forever.

Nahnatchka Khan (Always Be My MaybeFresh Off the Boat) directs Totally Killer from a script by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver, and Jen D’Angelo. Olivia Holt (Cloak & DaggerSame Kind of Different as Me), Charlie Gillespie (The Rest of UsJulie and the Phantoms), Lochlyn Murno (Scary MovieFreddy vs. Jason), Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson (Sex AppealLet’s Scare Julie), Tiffany Liberato (The Best of MeStuck in Love), Kelcey Mawema (Cruel IntentionsTo All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Stephi Chin-Salvo (OverboardSupergirl), and more join the cast.

In Blumhouse’s Totally Killer trailer, Khan gives the slasher genre a comedic twist while tapping into science-fiction with Back to the Future and The Butterfly Effect vibes. Shipka gets to strut her horror cops beyond Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, while Julie Bowen lights up the screen with a smile and fantastic comedic timing. If the time travel angle doesn’t grab you, the big hair, heavy metal, and blinding neon tights of the 1980s will surely bring on nostalgia.

I’m adding this to my October watch list as a fan of Khan’s Always Be My MaybeTotally Killer looks gory, crass, and full of surprises! Let’s f**king go!

Totally Killer slashes its way onto Prime Video on October 6, 2023.
