Toxic Avenger reboot snags writer-director Macon Blair

Legendary snagged the rights to the cult classic THE TOXIC AVENGER in December and made the reboot a top priority. And today we have word via Variety that I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE writer-director Macon Blair has been tapped to write and direct Legendary’s reboot.

Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz produced the original 1984 comedy and will serve as producers with Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter for Legendary. THE TOXIC AVENGER became successful as a midnight movie, leading to three sequels, a musical, a children’s cartoon, and a Marvel comic.

It follows:

A 98-pound nerd from New Jersey who lands in a vat of toxic waste and becomes a benevolent monster.

On top of writing and directing the above-mentioned I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE starring Elijah Wood and Melanie Lynskey, Blair is perhaps better known for his roles in director Jeremy Saulnier’s classics BLUE RUIN (see above) and GREEN ROOM. He also starred and co-wrote E.L. Katz's SMALL CRIMES and wrote the screenplay for Saulnier’s recent Netflix original film HOLD THE DARK with Jeffrey Wright.

I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE followed

A depressed woman (Melanie Lynskey) and her obnoxious neighbor set out to find the thieves after being burglarized, but they soon find themselves up against a group of dangerous criminals.

I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE was written and directed by Blair and starred Lynskey, Wood, David Yow, Jane Levy, and Devon Graye. Mette-Marie Kongsved, Neil Kopp, Vincent Savino, and Anish Savjani produced. Brooke and Will Blair provided the score and Larkin Seiple handled cinematography. The film premiered at Sundance on January 19, 2017, before being acquired by Netflix and released on February 24, 2017.
