Trailer released for Guillermo del Toro’s animated Netflix show Trollhunters

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Guillermo del Toro is known for having a bajillion projects lined up, with almost none of them coming to fruition. His R-rated, big-budget adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, his version of THE HOBBIT (that unlike Peter Jackson he was excited to do, and wasn't done by practical gunpoint), etc. Luckily a few slip past, like his fun (but shallow) PACIFIC RIM and the gorgeous Gothic romance CRIMSON PEAK.

Another one of his projects that somehow slipped past his self-imposed clogged queue is an animated television series for Netflix called TROLLHUNTERS. Here's a new trailer:

Oof. Oof. What? This…this does not look good. And I love me some Guillermo del Toro. So we don't get to see AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS or his HOBBIT, but we get this "Chosen One" shit? And, look, if you think this looks good, more power to you. Honestly, I'm envious. I just don't see it.

Though who knows? Maybe it will be awesome as hell. I mean, it is Guillermo del Toro after all. And, admittedly, the designs of the monsters look beautiful (natch), and the cast is impressive (boasting both Kelsey Grammer and Ron Perlman). But, honestly, even the greats make mistakes. Just ask Steven Spielberg about 1941, or Peter Jackson about the HOBBIT trilogy.

Either way, TROLLHUNTERS will start hunting trolls December 23rd, 2016.
