Hollywood and audiences alike have benefited from the works of Mark Millar's graphic novels, with WANTED, KICK-ASS and KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE becoming successful feature films. It looks like we're not slowing down on the Millar adaptations just yet as one of his more recent works, Jupiter's Legacy, is looking to get the feature-film treatment. Co-created with Frank Quitely, Legacy explores the generational conflict of a group of aging superheroes and their children, who find themselves lacking when living in the shadows of their parents' legacy. Millar will be teaming up with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION), although no cast or other crew has been chosen yet.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura had this to say about Jupiter's Legacy:
What appealed to me was the emotional weight of the family dynamic in Shakespearean fashion. It is also unique in a world where there are many similar super hero movies and IP.
While I haven't had the pleasure of reading Jupiter's Legacy's first five issues, I have enjoyed the film adaptation of Millar's work so far. Whether it be WANTED, KICK-ASS (we'll ignore the sequel) or KINGSMAN, the films have brought something vulgar and graphic to a world over-populated by PG-13. Not to say that there aren't great comic book films done in that format, but it's a breath of fresh air to get some blood and f-bombs every once in a while (cue DEADPOOL). Here's hoping they find a great film-making team to bring this to life.
