One flick I haven’t really paid attention to until now is Joe Cornish’s UK sci-fi romp ATTACK THE BLOCK. No real reason… it just hasn’t caught my attention, until today. Today we’ve got a trio of new stills from the film to scope out as well as some news regarding the flick coming out of the South by Southwest Festival.
First up, if you scroll above and below you’ll find all three brand new stills! Nothing too exciting but worth a look regardless. Then, according to an article over at The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, we’ve got the word that American executives are supposedly skeptical on ATTACK THE BLACK thanks to the film’s English slang, considering it takes place in inner-city London. They’re so concerned there is even talk of adding subtitles for the US release. Well that and there’s talk of a US remake already, but nobody should really be surprised about that.
Sam is walking home in a scary South London tower block when she’s robbed by a gang of hooded youths. She flees when the gang are attacked by a small alien creature which falls from the sky. While Sam and the police hunt for the gang, a second wave of creatures falls. The gang grab weapons, mount bikes, and set out to defend their turf. But this time, the creatures are much bigger. Savage and bestial, nothing will stand in their way. And the bunch of no-hope kids who just attacked Sam are about to become her only hope.
ATTACK THE BLOCK is rocking SXSW this weekend followed by a UK release on May 11th. Hopefully this shite gets snatched up this weekend for a US release. As soon as we hear more updates regarding ATTACK THE BLOCK we’ll be sure to pass them along to all of you.
