Trick ‘r Treat 2 will give Sam a proper nemesis

The little supernatural being Sam will be getting a proper nemesis in Trick ‘r Treat 2, according to director Mike Dougherty

Director Mike Dougherty is slowing pushing forward Trick ‘r Treat 2, the long-awaited sequel to his horror anthology film Trick ‘r Treat (watch it HERE). Last year, he said the sequel is in “very active development“ and this month he mentioned that there is a “really great script” in place that he wrote with his Krampus collaborators Zach Shields and Todd Casey. Now, while speaking with Collider, Dougherty added that Trick ‘r Treat 2 is going to give the film’s little icon Sam a “proper nemesis” to face off with.

Sam is a supernatural creature that walks among trick-or-treaters with a burlap sack on his head, making sure people show the Halloween holiday its proper respect. If they don’t, Sam deals out the consequences. Some of the characters in Trick ‘r Treat find that out, most notably an old man played by Brian Cox, who does battle with Sam in one of the film’s segments. Talking about the sequel, Dougherty said, “The working title is Trick ‘r Treat 2, and we came up with a proper nemesis for Sam that would give Brian Cox a run for his money.

Written and directed by Dougherty, Trick ‘r Treat tells five interwoven stories that occur on Halloween: An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with a demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater.

Brian Cox was joined in the cast by Quinn Lord, Anna Paquin, Dylan Baker, and many others.

Trick ‘r Treat 2 doesn’t have an official greenlight yet, but the script has been written, storyboards and concept art have been drawn, and Dougherty is hoping to talk to the producers at Legendary soon.
