EPISODE 7: Crossed

THE HOOK: Rick’s Terminus reunion didn’t go as planned. Now, prisoners of this malicious new group of survivors, Rick and crew must plot their next move carefully if they hope to survive.

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS, so I don’t recommend reading this if you haven’t watched this episode

THE LOWDOWN: Lots went down tonight, and although we saw a bit from every group, I was a little disappointed that Abraham’s crew didn’t head back to the church—hell, they’re not even sure that’s the route to take at this point, but I’m sure they will. Not much happened on the Abraham front, I mean, he’s completely messed up, they’re not sure if Eugene’s going to pull through (it looks like he did, but you never really know with this show), and Glenn, Maggie and Tara bond over…fishing. It’s hilarious that they’re so eager to eat those fish after going on about how filthy the water was. Of course, at that point, I’m sure sewer rat would look delicious. I’m enjoying the split decision on Eugene, but I have to side with Abraham and Glenn on this one, dude’s dead weight and some lies you can’t come back from. That said, Maggie’s pampering him like he’s Judith. I’m extremely interested to see where that scenario goes, I know for a fact Rick will at least contemplate shooting Eugene in the face when he hears the news.

Now speaking of Rick, he’s in full blown bloodbath mode when he’s drawing up the plan of attack on the Hospital. Now I’m not heartless, but I loved Rick’s plan. Sure, I can see why Tyreese would try to be diplomatic about the whole thing (didn’t see Daryl’s siding with him coming though), but holy hell guys, do you really think there’s a scenario where everyone shakes hands and goes home in one piece? Has nothing that’s come before this taught you that this just doesn’t happen? Sigh. I’m excited by how well Beth is taking care of business behind enemy lines. Still not sure if her exchange with Dawn was some kind of ploy on Dawn’s end, or if maybe (just maybe) there’s hope for Dawn yet. Guess we’ll see how negotiations go next week, but I won’t hold my breath. Carol looks bad, but then again, for dramatic purposes, I’m sure she’s meant to. I have no doubt she’ll wake up, but I’m not one hundred percent confident that her and Beth will both make it out of there alive, which is really eating at me because I don’t want to lose either of them at this point.

I don’t like the preacher, and I sure as hell don’t trust his twitchy ass. I can’t get my mind around how he’s survived as long as he has, dude almost passed out after touching the machete (which he may have faked to get it). It’s a shame though, Carl and Michonne are seriously trying to help his dumbass, and what’s he do? He’s in there digging a damn hole in the floor so he can…run away into the woods. Alone, and unarmed. That’s right, he didn’t even take the damn machete. And nice work bro, after the crew spent all that time barricading the joint, you go and leave an easily accessible hole in the floor for all the walkers to find. May as well have put up a neon sign to go with it. God, I hope his face gets bitten off.

THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 5’s seventh episode set the stage for one hell of a mid-season finale. I’m trying to be optimistic about next week’s episode, but there’s always hype on the net, and even if there wasn’t, it’s The Walking Dead, so you know it’s not going to end well. The cop plan backfired. Daryl almost got bitten (several times), which was a pretty cool fight, reminded me of him and Merle in the Governor’s walker fight club, but of course, they were too damn nice to these cops. Rick will have one hell of an “I told you so” for Daryl once the smoke clears, but in the meantime, I hope Sasha’s okay. I get the impression the cop who got away will run to Dawn and tell her the other two cops are conspiring against her so they should just kill Rick and everyone out there. So much for his “I come in peace” speech. Looking forward to the mid-season finale, but as always, I have a bad feeling.

ZOMBIE KILL OF THE WEEK: Daryl eye gouges a walker, rips its head off and uses it to beat down a cop. It doesn’t get much cooler than that.

BLOOD AND GORE: Like I said, there was some eye gouging, head tearing, stabbing and impaling. Add to that, some cool ass gore scenes with guts and huge area of melted walkers. Visuals were nuts tonight.

COOLEST SCENE: There were a few really cool scenes tonight, but for my money, I enjoyed the Rick and Daryl moral debate. Daryl stepped in to save Rick from himself with the plan, and then when he’s about to shoot the cop. It doesn’t seem like much, but there’s a lot going on there. These two guys trust one another completely and are able to stand up to one another like brothers when no one else would dare say a word.
