New Uncharted movie images tease mysterious artifacts

A series of new photos for Sony's adaptation of Uncharted starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg has been unearthed.

The batch of new images includes a close-up of a cross-like artifact, a statue covered in cobwebs, and an old map that undoubtedly leads toward danger. Anyone who's played an Uncharted video game will attest that these photos look as if they were pulled directly from the video game series, which is great news for those that are sticklers for authenticity. 

Created by Naughty Dog and published by PlayStation, the Uncharted video game series revolves around the globe-trotting adventures of Nathan Drake, an explorer who continuously finds himself at war with rival seekers of artifacts that, once acquired, could help shape the future of mankind in ways never thought possible. Joining Holland for the upcoming action roller coaster is Mark Wahlberg as Drake's long-time exploring partner and friend, Victor "Sully" Sullivan, with Sophia Ali playing Chloe Frazer. Tati Gabrielle (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Antonio Banderas will also co-star.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Venom), Uncharted will act as the first feature film produced by Playstation Productions. Those that have followed the film throughout production know that it's traveled a long road, with several creatives jumping ship for one reason or another. After passing through the hands of writers like Mark Boal, David O. Russell, Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer, David Guggenheim, and Joe Carnahan, Fleischer's version was shot from a screenplay penned by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. That's a lot of cooks going in and out of the kitchen, if you ask me, so here's hoping that the final product is the best version yet.

While I always temper my expectations when it comes to video game adaptations, Uncharted certainly has the potential to break tradition. Not only is the film led by Sony's Golden Boy, Tom Holland, but its premise has also guaranteed franchise potential, provided Drake's first adventure isn't a flop.
