When I first played the PS3 adventure game UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE (which is a blast), I thought the experience was cinematic enough to be a prime candidate for feature treatment.
Now a couple years later (and a sequel game due in a few months), a studio has finally stepped up to bring the gorgeous game to life. Columbia (i.e., Sony) has the suddenly busy screenwriter Kyle Ward working on the script, with former Marvel madman Avi Arad and DARK KNIGHT’s Charles Roven producing.
The game follows fortune hunter Nathan Drake (a blatant Nathan Fillion facsimile), who finds a clue in the coffin of distant relative Sir Francis Drake that sends him on a quest for the fabled treasure of El Dorado. On his search for the legendary city of gold, he encounters deadly jungles, WWII relics, mercenaries, pirates and mysterious creatures, all the while contending with mischievous (but occasionally useful) cohorts.
Ward is apparently now the go-to guy for videogame adaptations — he penned the upcoming KANE & LYNCH and just landed the job on HITMAN 2.
