On Friday I told you about the bidding war between four major Hollywood studios and the film rights to Electronic Arts (EA) upcoming video game tentatively titled DANTE’S INFERNO (click HERE for all the gory details). My how the bidding wars end fast, as it was announced this morning that we have a winner!

Universal Pictures beat out Paramount, New Regency, and MGM for the film rights to the yet-to-be-released video game, which will have the game’s creators close at hand to be bring the game to life on the big screen. Awesome.

This is actually the second deal that Universal has had with EA within the last month, the other being the rights to ARMY OF TWO, which has the writer of THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM on board to write. No news on who’s going to be writing DANTE’S INFERNO yet, but with the game’s creator closely involved with the project, I think we’re in good hands.

I bet Universal is feeling pretty good as the victors of this battle–let’s just hope the game is as big of a success as they’re hoping it will be.
