Universal monsters get an officially licensed board game

Horrified: Universal Monsters

Universal's classic monsters are being assembled together for a new project, but this isn't a cinematic reboot of HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (or HOUSE OF DRACULA). This time fans will be able to take on the monsters themselves by playing the upcoming officially licensed board game Horrified. You can see the Universal stamp of approval on the box above.

Coming to us from Ravensburger, Horrified is a strategy game where up to 5 players can

work together to take down each monster. While that basically means that players are the equivalent of pitchfork-and-torch-bearing villagers, the village in question is being plagued by seven iconic monsters, so you can kind of understand the need for creature-defeating teamwork.

The monsters players will be battling are Count Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. The game will come with high quality sculpted miniatures of each one of them.

I've never played a board game that was about fighting off monsters before, but this one sounds pretty cool to me.

Horrified (or Horrified: Universal Monsters) is set to be released on August 1st and is expected to retail for $34.99.
