I know what you’re asking yourself: ‘Didn’t Matt Lopez pen the script for the upcoming ASTEROIDS adaptation?’ Well yes, he did. But it seems Universal want to go another way because according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog they’ve gone and tapped Evan Spiliotopoulos with the task of writing the screenplay. Works for me.
This shite has been in the works for a couple years now, so I’d say it’s understandable if Universal want a fresh take on things. Now while the original Atari video game was as basic as you can get with a spaceship flying around shooting asteroids, the film adaptation will obviously branch out a bit. Here’s the updated rundown:
The plotline for the film adaptation has evolved into the story of two estranged brothers that must team up to save Earth from an alien race.
I’m sure all sorts of fun will ensue! Now that’s about all we’ve got on ASTEROIDS right now, which is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, but as soon as any other news on this little diddy comes our way we’ll be sure to pass that shite right along to all of you.
