The Invisible Man & The Hunt hit VOD this Friday

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In an unprecedented move, Universal will officially release Blumhouse’s THE INVISIBLE MAN and THE HUNT in homes as early as this Friday for on-demand 48-hour rental at the suggested price of $19.99. This comes on the heels of this past weekend's domestic box office seeing a 22-year low of $55.3M, with over 100 theaters closed throughout the country as moviegoers were distracted by the coronavirus.

NBCUniversal said in a statement this morning:

We will continue to evaluate the environment as conditions evolve and will determine the best distribution strategy in each market when the current unique situation changes. Universal Pictures has a broad and diverse range of movies with 2020 being no exception. Rather than delaying these films or releasing them into a challenged distribution landscape, we wanted to provide an option for people to view these titles in the home that is both accessible and affordable. We hope and believe that people will still go to the movies in theaters where available, but we understand that for people in different areas of the world that is increasingly becoming less possible.

THE INVISIBLE MAN follows this synopsis:

What you can’t see can hurt you. Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss (Us, The Handmaid’s Tale) stars in a terrifying modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character.  Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, NBC’s The InBetween), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, HBO’s Euphoria). But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

Meanwhile, THE HUNT has the following synopsis:

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don't know they've been chosen… for a very specific purpose… The Hunt. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of globalist elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal, knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman at the center of it all.

Leigh Whannell’s THE INVISIBLE MAN and Craig Zobel’s THE HUNT will be released on VOD this Friday, March 20, 2020.
