For the most part I love me a good graphic novel. When that graphic novel is about a sexy little school girl coming back from the dead to kick ass… well do I need to say more?
Obviously I’m sold on the subject! And obviously I’m talking about Josh Howard’s DEAD@17. It’s no secret a film is being made based on the graphic novel… but the news today straightens some of our facts. The last we heard TRICK R TREAT director Mike Dougherty was busily penning a script with producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura looking at Vanessa Hudgens (below) to star. Well you can throw all that out the window.
Actually it seems like we’re bounding back to square one. MTV recently caught up with Dougherty and asked him what’s the deal with DEAD@17… his response isn’t exactly a good one: “That’s so early in development. There’s just nothing to talk about right now.”
When asked about whether or not he’s actually penning the screenplay Dougherty responded: “No, no. That was a weird Internet rumor. I’m not attached to officially write it; I’m attached to produce with some other guys.” So does the film even have an official writer? “No. We’re still kicking around ideas. It’s really, really early.”
Well shit… that sucks. It looks like DEAD@17 is a ways away, especially considering Dougherty is hard at work on CALLING ALL ROBOTS with a possible TRICK R TREAT sequel following that. So are you upset at this news? Relieved? Do you even care? I’d like to say hopefully we’ll hear more on DEAD@17 soon… but that isn’t looking so good. As always we’ll keep you updated!
