UPDATE – CHECK OUT THE OFFICIAL WEBSITEUPDATE

Looks like there will always be somebody who wants to make 3-D work for film. The most successful use of 3-D seems to be with flicks that work well in the IMAX format as well. Both the technology used and the scale of it seem better suited to the desired effect.

Now ImageMovers and Amblin plan to release their motion-capture animated flick MONSTER HOUSE in 100 theaters in digital 3-D. No word yet on an IMAX version though. The concept of the flick is as follows:

Three kids must battle a house determined to eat every trick-or-treater on Halloween.

Now personally I’ve tended to feel that the use 3-D was too gimmicky in the past, but I will definitely sign up to see a giant house swooping down in 3-D as it tries to consume those kids! Fun times!
