We’re now just nine days away from the October 1st release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, director Andy Serkis’s sequel to the 2018 Ruben Fleischer Marvel Comics adaptation Venom (watch it HERE). We’ve seen a couple trailers for the film and several posters, and now four clips from the film have arrived online to give a preview of some of its symbiote shenanigans. You can watch these clips in the video embedded above.
In the first clip, we’re introduced to the villainous character Shriek, played by Naomie Harris. The second clip shows journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) having a heated interaction with imprisoned serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson). In the third clip, Brock talks to Stephen Graham as Detective Patrick Mulligan. And the final clip shows Brock arguing with Venom, the alien symbiote that inhabits his body.
Cletus Kasady will get coated with a symbiote himself in this film, becoming the monstrous Carnage. In the comics, Patrick Mulligan also gets coated with a symbiote and becomes a character called Toxin, “more powerful than Venom and Carnage combined”. So his presence in Venom: Let There Be Carnage may be setting up a future sequel… or maybe he’ll even become Toxin in this one.
We don’t know much about what happens in this movie, because Venom: Let There Be Carnage – which was scripted by Kelly Marcel, who crafted the story with Hardy – doesn’t have much of a synopsis:
Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL’s greatest and most complex characters.
The actors mentioned above are joined in the cast by Michelle Williams as Eddie Brock’s ex Anne Weying; Reid Scott as Doctor Dan Lewis, Anne’s boyfriend; and Sean Delaney in an unspecified role.
While this film is based on Marvel Comics characters, it is not officially connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, it’s part of what Sony is calling their Spider-Man Universe – formerly known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material, and suggestive references.
