Video! We induct the legendary George A. Romero into our Horror Hall of Fame

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

George A. Romero is the latest master of horror to be inducted into our HORROR HALL OF FAME, and we honor the legendary filmmaker, the man who introduced the world to the concept of flesh-eating zombies, in the video embedded above.

Romero was only in his twenties when he made his feature directorial debut with the 1968 classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, which turned out to be one of the greatest, most influential horror films ever made. With co-writer John A. Russo, Romero created a new monster and a brand new sub-genre of horror, one which has only become increasingly popular as the decades have gone by. The concept of flesh-eating ghouls is one that he would return to several times, giving us more zombie classics like DAWN OF THE DEAD and DAY OF THE DEAD.

But zombies aren't the only thing Romero had to offer. He made a lot of awesome movies over the course of his career, including MARTIN, KNIGHTRIDERS, THE CRAZIES, MONKEY SHINES, and the Stephen King collaborations CREEPSHOW and THE DARK HALF, among others.

Every genre fan has their own favorite "master of horror", and for me Romero is #1 on the list. The man is one of my cinematic heroes, and the HORROR HALL OF FAME would not have been complete without him in it.

The HORROR HALL OF FAME video series was created by Benjamin Skinner and is produced by John Fallon. The idea behind the show:

What does it take to become a Horror icon? Whether it be the Filmmakers orchestrating the frights, the Artists crafting the gore, or the Actors engineering the scares, this series takes an in-depth look at the men and women who paved the way for the way for an entire generation of horror fans, and made the genre what it is today.
