Long live the old flesh.

All you need to know: Universal Pictures is remaking David Cronenberg’s VIDEODROME. The script was written by Ehren Kruger (THE RING, TRANSFORMERS 2 and 3), and a director named Adam Berg will be making his feature debut on it.

Berg is evidently a celebrated director of music videos and commercials. One Philips ad in particular, called “Carousel,” has garnered him a lot of attention, and won the prestigious Cannes Lions Film Grand Prix, “the first time ever that an online spot had breached the walls of the TV-centric award category.” (You can watch that admittedly cool commercial below.)

The original film, starring James Woods and Debbie Harry, has the following synopsis (in case, for some reason, you don’t know what it’s about): When Max Renn goes looking for edgy new shows for his sleazy cable TV station, he stumbles across the pirate broadcast of a hyperviolent torture show called “Videodrome.” As he unearths the origins of the program, he embarks on a hallucinatory journey into a shadow world of right-wing conspiracies, sadomasochistic sex games, and bodily transformation. Renn’s ordinary life dissolves around him, he finds himself at the center of a conflict between opposing factions in the struggle to control the truth behind the radical human future of “the New Flesh.”

According to Deadline, Kruger and producing partner Daniel Bobker plan to “modernize the concept, infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.”

That sure sounds fun, right…? You can check out a sample of Berg’s reel right HERE.
