Voltron: Legendary Defender takes the form of an exciting Season 2 trailer

Without a doubt, one of the strongest debuts for an animated series, last year, was Dreamworks Animations and World Event Production’s VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDERS! Animated by Studio Mir, and spearheaded by Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos of AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER and THE LEGEND OF KORRA fame, the first season of the nostalgia-heavy robot lion-themed animated adventure made its debut via Netflix on June 10, 2016.

In addition to making new friends, this exciting and action-packed trailer finds the Paladins running for their lives from a truly terrifying new villain. In speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Laura Montgomery had this to say about what we can expect for Voltron’s latest epic engagement,

Each team member has to start the season dealing with their own problems. They’ve all been split off. We’re going to spend a little bit of time tackling problems on their own, but ultimately they do have to come back together in the end. They have to get back into solving the problem at hand, which is Zarkon has enslaved a large portion of the universe. You can’t let that just keep going for too long.

Furthermore, showrunner Joaquim Dos Santos also spoke on the shows behalf by stating,

It’s an expansion of the universe, and it’s really where ‘Legendary Defender’ starts distinguishing itself from some of the previous versions. There’s just more out there. The world just keeps getting bigger.

I’ve only had the chance to check out the first few episodes of VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER Season 1, though I feel pretty confident in saying that this show has got some major chops. It’s got that old school feel of the original coupled with the humor and character depth found in programs like AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER and THE LEGEND OF KORRA. Considering the pedigree, it’s no wonder why this trailer will no doubt have fans eagerly awaiting their chance to prowl the space ways with their favorite pack of robotic lions.

VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER Season 2 will debut on Netflix starting on January 20, 2017.
