Can you imagine a badass noir detective that makes his living taking out vampires, monsters and other things that go bump in the night? Doesn’t that sound pretty damn intriguing? Now imagine that idea coming from Steve Niles. Oh yeah. Niles’ graphic novel CRIMINAL MACABRE is heading to the big screen!

This may not be a surprise considering Niles has been very vocal about his upcoming projects, the film adaptaion of CRIMINAL MACABRE included. The news today isn’t the fact that the comic is coming to life but that a writer is attached! According to Variety Universal Pictures have snagged the rights to MACABRE and have tapped Kyle Ward to adapt the comic.

You’ve never heard of Ward? That’s alright… you’re not alone! That doesn’t mean the man doesn’t have a slew of projects on his slate though! Along with CRIMINAL MACABRE he’s also penning HITMAN 2, KANE AND LYNCH and Michael Bay’s FIASCO HEIGHTS. So needless to say Ward seems to fit right in with the gritty noir scene. Hopefully that’s the case considering that’s the exact category CRIMINAL MACABRE falls under. Here’s the synopsis: CRIMINAL MACABRE centers on a supernatural detective who doubles as hitman, taking out all the vampires, ghosts and other unsavory monsters who live among humans, hiding in the shadows by day and emerging at night.

Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson is producing along with Original Films’ Neal Moritz. That’s all we’ve got so far for CRIMINAL MACABRE so now we await the next big question: Who’ll be directing this one?? Who do you think would be perfect for the job?
