Watch Kevin Bacon chase a cult of killers in an extended “The Following” trailer

Yesterday we passed along some promo images from Fox’s new TV thriller “The Following”, which jumps from the mind of Kevin Williamson, and now we’ve got a trailer for the series. Said trailer runs nearly four minutes long, so consider it a very decent-sized sampling of what we can expect from the show – we probably won’t get a whole lot more until the fall.

Starring Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Shawn Ashmore, Natalie Zea and Maggie Grace, “The Following” centers on a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers, and the FBI agent who finds himself in the middle of it.

Based on the trailer, the show contains a bevy of familiar tropes and ideas (indeed, even the opening sequence looks a bit reminiscent of Williamson’s SCREAM films), but there’s potential here for something a little different as far as primetime television goes. Not sure how I feel about that clunker of a “twist” in the very last scene, however. This could venture into soap opera territory with revelations like that…
