Bloody-Disgusting put up their dukes today (it’s Boxing Day for the UK and Canada) with about a dozen new pics from Fox Searchlight’s upcoming release (finally!) of the Russian horror flick NIGHT WATCH, which has been on the shelf for what seems like forever (the film was released in its homeland of Russia in 2004). Heck, the sequel for the film is already in post-production, fer cryin’ out loud! Better late than never, I suppose.
Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, the film centers on a group of humans known as the “Others”, who possess various supernatural powers. They are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a “Night Watch” of light forces, among them Anton, the movie’s protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage.
