Watcher: Maika Monroe to star in Chloe Okuno serial killer thriller

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Genre regular Maika Monroe (The Guest, It Follows, The Stranger) has signed on to star in the psychological thriller Watcher, which is set to go into production later this month. Watcher marks the feature directorial debut of Chloe Okuno, who made an award-winning short called Slut a while back. Slut led to Okuno being hired to script a remake of Audrey Rose and signing on to direct a horror movie called Bodies Bodies Bodies for A24 – but it turns out that Watcher is going to be the first of her projects to get rolling.

Karl Glusman and Burn Gorman join Monroe in the cast of Watcher, which will follow

young married couple Julia (Monroe) and Francis (Glusman) as they move into a new apartment together in Bucharest, just as a citywide panic is brewing over a possible serial killer on the loose. Julia, who finds herself isolated in her new surroundings, becomes increasingly tormented by the belief that she is being stalked by an unseen watcher in the adjacent building.

Based on an original spec script by Zack Ford, Watcher is an Image Nation and Spooky Pictures co-production. The film is being produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, John Finemore, Mason Novick, Aaron Kaplan, and Sean Perrone. Stuart Manashil, Rami Yasin, and James Hoppe serve as executive producers.

This sounds interesting to me, and Monroe has established herself as a capable horror heroine, so I'm looking forward to this one.
