Weitz for New Moon?

Earlier this week word came out that director Catherine Hardwicke was off the TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON (and its sequel ECLIPSE) for a variety of reasons, mostly because of scheduling conflicts and simply not having enough time to make MOON the best film she could. Or at least, that’s their official story.

Since then Summit Entertainment has been scurrying around trying to find a replacement, and some news coming from Deadline Hollywood Daily is suggesting that Summit has found a replacement in the director of THE GOLDEN COMPASS and ABOUT A BOY. Wait, seriously? Didn’t THE GOLDEN COMPASS flop, and isn’t ABOUT A BOY just a simple dramedy? No bother, as it appears director Chris Weitz is the number one ‘possible’ looking to take over the franchise. Again, seriously???

Not that I think the franchise deserves better, I just find it bizarre that Summit would entrust their only big franchise opportunity to the dude who was behind that stinker THE GOLDEN COMPASS. Given, I never saw it… then again, nobody else did either! That’s the problem.

On the other hand, since I despise this series, maybe it’s a good thing for Summit to bring on a crappy director, who will then make crappy movies, and I can laugh my ass off when they bomb at the box office and are slated some of the worse movies in the history of film. So yeah. Hire Weitz.

Nothing’s official at this point, but you can check out all the speculation by clicking HERE.
