Producer Adrian Askarieh has a lot of big projects on his plate. First there’s KANE AND LYNCH based on the video game starring Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx. Then a deal with Warner Brothers on the movie LEONARDO DA VINCI AND THE SOLDIERS OF FOREVER. Lastly, he’s got the adaptation of the comic HACK/SLASH moving forward with Relativity, still possibly starring Vanessa Hudgens (at least that’s the last I heard from creator Josh Howard).
Now, Askarieh is talking another project, an adaptation of the comic DANGER GIRL. The comic is written by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell. Campbell also illustrates those sexy animated ladies you see at the top of the page. The story is about a group of scantily clad secret agents who are led by a leader by the name of Deuce. Think of a cross between James Bond and CHARLIE’S ANGELS.
Askarieh was asked five questions about the project from the LA Times. I’m going to throw in some of the highlights for you guys. If you want to check out the interview in it’s entirety, head on over here.
The first question asked the producer to describe the DANGER GIRL property, “I would describe it as KILL BILL meets RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK with the “team” element of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. I would say to the uninitiated that the book is a smart, hip, fun and beautifully drawn love letter to the best action/adventure movies of the last 30 years. It is the story of a lost girl who, through this incredibly kick-ass adventure, finds her destiny, comes of age and helps save the world. What’s interesting is that our director, Todd Lincoln, who will also be executive producer on the project, my producing partner on this, Daniel Alter and myself were all independently huge fans of the book. Lincoln is an up and comer who is currently wrapping up filming on THE APPARITION with Ashley Greene.
So, where are they going in terms of tone? “First of all, we are taking these characters very seriously; a kind of BATMAN BEGINS approach, if you will. Also, Todd has a very interesting aesthetic approach to this project, which will actually inform the tone of the storytelling and the movie as a whole. Without giving too much away, he wants to use the technology similar to that used in AVATAR to bring Campbell’s characters and world to life and yet, at the same time, have the audience fully recognize and be emotionally invested in the actors playing those characters. Everyone wants that BATMAN BEGINS approach. Mix in a little AVATAR technology and you’ve got a doosey.
Currently they are in the process of checking out possible stars for the film, as well as locations. They also hope to make a big announcement, most likely about casting at this years Comic-Con.
