I love dark comedies. A huge fan. Especially a dark comedy that’s done well. For example, DEATH TO SMOOCHY, that was just brilliant.
So when I came across this news today, I figured I’d give it a go and share it with all of you. The Hollywood Reporter says that Whitewater Films have just picked up theatrical distribution rights for a new dark comedy coming from Rick Rosenthal (right).
The film is called ZAPPER and follows a young preacher who becomes a local sensation after appearing to communicate with the dead through a TV remote control.
How does that not sound fun? Rosenthal has been doing a lot of TV shows lately, but he does have a few genre credits in THE BIRDS 2, HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, and HALLOWEEN 2. Of course that last one was the better of the three films, with the other two being… not so good. So let’s hope we see the HALLOWEEN 2 Rosenthal.
Valeska Ramet, Doug Sutherland and Gary Dean Simpson, all of Whitewater Films, will be producing. As noted, Rick Rosenthal, who just so happens to be Whitewater’s president, will be directing from a script by Jim Strain.
