Back in January, we shared the news that production had wrapped on Who Invited Them, a horror comedy starring Ryan Hansen – who may be best known for playing the role of Dick Casablancas on the TV series Veronica Mars, but to me he’ll always be Nolan from Friday the 13th 2009. Who Invited Them has since made its US premiere at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans, and has now been picked up for distribution through the Shudder streaming service. Shudder will be releasing the film as a Shudder Original in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand on September 1st.
In Who invited Them, Adam and Margo’s housewarming party is a success. However, one mysterious couple linger long after all the other guests have left. The uninvited couple reveals themselves to be their wealthy neighbors, Tom and Sasha. But as a single nightcap leads to another, Adam and Margo start to suspect these new friends are actually duplicitous strangers.
Hansen plays Adam, and is joined in the cast by Melissa Tang (The Kominsky Method) as Margo, Timothy Granaderos (13 Reasons Why) as Tom, and Perry Mattfeld (In the Dark) as Sasha.
Who Invited Them marks the feature debut for writer/director Duncan Birmingham, who has previously directed multiple short films. He was also a writer and executive producer on the TV series Maron.
Shudder’s Craig Engler said,
Who Invited Them puts a fresh, fun twist on the home invasion genre. It’s darkly comic yet shockingly sinister. We can’t wait for Shudder members to check out the party.”
Birmingham added,
Some of my favorite filmmakers have their films on Shudder and everyone knows horror fans make the best audiences, so it’s a real thrill for our dark twisted labor of love to find a home there. I’m very excited to be part of the family.”
