After A.A. Milne’s beloved children’s classic Winnie-the-Pooh entered the public domain at the beginning of the year, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield was quick to jump on the opportunity by transforming the iconic characters of the Hundred Acre Wood into slasher villains. It seems that Frake-Waterfield isn’t done mining our public domain childhoods, as THR reports that his next project will be a twisted horror take on Peter Pan.

We don’t know much about the Peter Pan horror movie, only that it will be titled Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare. As for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the upcoming film has gotten quite a lot of attention since it was first announced. In fact, the increased interest has enabled Rhys Frake-Waterfield to expand the production with additional shots as well as develop a Blood and Honey sequel. The movie will also be released across hundreds of theaters across the U.S. on February 15th through Fathom Events. THR reports that Altitude has snagged the film for the U.K, while Cinemex will release the movie in several hundred theaters in Mexico, with Cineplex handling the Canadian release.

The director has previously stated that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will follow Pooh and Piglet as they go on a rampage after being abandoned. “Christopher Robin is pulled away from them, and he’s not [given] them food, it’s made Pooh and Piglet’s life quite difficult,” Frake-Waterfield said. “Because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral. So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.

What other public domain characters could use the horror transformation?
