Don’t get too excited about Wonder Woman 3. Despite recent comments from Gal Gadot in which she claimed that James Gunn and Peter Safran had told her they would develop a third Wonder Woman movie, Variety has reported that’s not the case.

According to Variety’s sources, Wonder Woman 3 is not in development at DC Studios. The report added that James Gunn and Peter Safran have no plans for any type of Wonder Woman project in the new DC Universe, beyond the Paradise Lost prequel series already announced for Max. Prior to Gunn and Safran taking over DC Studios, there had been plans for a third Wonder Woman movie. Patty Jenkins would have returned to direct the sequel, but it was reported that the project didn’t fit in with the current plan.

Gal Gadot made the following comments about the possible Wonder Woman sequel to Flaunt Magazine (prior to the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike): “I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran [co-chairperson and CEO of DC alongside Gunn] and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.” Sources told Variety that “nothing was ever promised to Gadot regarding ‘Wonder Woman 3’” and that there was never “any definitive discussion of Gadot’s Wonder Woman continuing with the new DC Universe.

I’m certain Wonder Woman will have a part to play in the new DC Universe down the road. It remains to be seen if Gal Gadot will still play the character when that time comes but for now, James Gunn and Peter Safran are concentrating on the the projects they’ve already announced.

Gal Gadot will next be seen in Heart of Stone, an action thriller in which she plays Agent Rachel Stone, the only intelligence operative who stands between her global, peace-keeping organization and the loss of its most valuable — and dangerous — asset, codenamed: The Heart. The film will debut on Netflix on August 11th.
