Seventeen months after filming began and six months out from the film's theatrical release, director Mike Dougherty has taken to his Twitter account to celebrate the fact that work is completely finished on GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, his sequel to Gareth Edwards' 2014 GODZILLA.

Scripted by Dougherty, his KRAMPUS co-writer Zach Shields, and Max Borenstein (who previously worked on GODZILLA '14 and KONG: SKULL ISLAND), this installment in the Warner Bros. / Legendary MonsterVerse follows
the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.
When these ancient super-species — thought to be mere myths — rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
The cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Zhang Ziyi, Aisha Hinds, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Randy Havens, Jonathan Howard, Anthony Ramos, Bradley Whitford, and Elizabeth Ludlow, with Jason Liles, Richard Dorton, and Alex Maxson providing the motion capture performances for the three heads of King Ghidorah.
As a life-long fan of Godzilla who wasn't too thrilled with the 2014 movie, I am still hyped for GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, as I have a feeling that Dougherty has crafted a more entertaining film this time around, especially since he had several more classic monsters to work with. It will be interesting to see a Godzilla movie from the writer/director of TRICK 'R TREAT – although, keep in mind that Dougherty has also worked on X-MEN 2, SUPERMAN RETURNS, and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, so he's not entirely a stranger to films of this scale.
Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers, Thomas Tull, and Jon Jashni produced the film, with Zach Shields, Barry H. Waldman, Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Yoshimitsu Banno, and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers. Alexandra Mendes and Jay Ashenfelter co-produced for Legendary.
GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS arrives in theatres on May 31, 2019. The trailer can be seen below. I find it to be a bit too dark (visually, not in content), so I'm hoping the movie is brighter than this.
