Writer/director of Midsommar says next film will be “nightmare comedy”

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Writer/director Ari Aster, who was the mastermind behind HEREDITARY and MIDSOMMAR, joined in on a video chat with the Associated Students Program Board a few days ago. As reported by UC Santa Barbara's Daily Nexus, he was asked a lot of questions, including why he got into filmmaking (his answer: "movies").

However, when he was asked about what his next project would, he said he just finished a new draft on a

nightmare comedy…[and] all I know is that it’s gonna be four hours long.

Sounds good to me (though it's pretty clear he was joking about the runtime)! Because I think both of his most famous horror films – while certainly legitimately terrifying in places – were also quite darkly humorous in many ways. Hopefully we'll get more details soon!

Meanwhile, Aster is producing a SAVE THE GREEN PLANET remake through his production company, Square Peg.

So what do you guys think? Would you be down to see him tackle a comedy? Either way, sound off below!
