X-Men 4 & more

Okay, so X-MEN 3 wasn’t so good. Sure, it made a pile of money, but the film suffered overall with Brian Singer’s absence (then again, SUPERMAN RETURNS suffered with Brian Singer’s involvement). Now, with rumblings of a fourth X-MEN movie on the horizon (as well as WOLVERINE), exec producer Lauren Shuler Donner sat down with the LA Daily News to talk about said films.

“The newer cast members are signed, and the older cast members are not,” says Donner. Said older cast members -Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn, Famke Janssen and Anna Paquin- will obviously be running for big bucks, which wouldn’t be the first time for Berry in the series (let’s not forget the whole post-CATWOMAN thing).

However, before X-MEN 4, Donner says that WOLVERINE is first priority for FOX. “Next, we’re going to do WOLVERINE, but not before the end of the year because he’s in the Baz Luhrmann film [with Nicole Kidman].” Also on the drawing board is a film focussing on MAGNETO, which Donner referred to as ‘YOUNG MAGNETO’ (obviously, that won’t be the name of the film).

As for things in Singer land, Warner Bros. is still mulling over whether to do a sequel helmed by Singer, since the first film didn’t exactly set the box office on fire. If you’re like me, however, here’s hoping that Singer goes back to the X-MEN franchise and gets it back on track.
