…And the remake machine rolled on.
Already this week we’ve had not one but two remakes being announced: One totally unnecessary remake of NEAR DARK, and a remake of the 2003 Korean flick INTO THE MIRROR, which will be handled by Alexandre Aja (fresh off of THE HILLS HAVE EYES remake). Now, according to Fangoria, get set for a dip into MGM‘s B-movie vault, as Columbia Pictures is set to remake the 1963 Roger Corman classic X: THE MAN WITH X-RAY EYES.
This news isn’t particularly as shocking as NEAR DARK’s, as the remake of X has been in the works for some time, with Tim Burton being one of the frontrunners to direct. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman (both of THE SHAGGY DOG) will produce the remake, along with Albert Page.
In the original, Ray Milland played the title character X (or Dr. Xavier, for those completists), a scientist who takes extreme measures with his wellbeing and tests an eye serum on himself that gives him the power of x-ray vision. Obviously, the guy has a hoot with the ability, seeing through clothes, walls, and the like, but things take a turn when he begins seeing things far more terrifying.
It’s still early to know if or when the remake will come to fruition, but considering the recent news, it shouldn’t be a surpise when it’s announced.
