Yellowstone 1883 Interview: LaMonica Garrett on whether we’ll see Thomas again

Last Updated on September 9, 2022

One of the best shows to hit streaming recently is Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spin-off, 1883. A one-and-done limited series, initially, the show was teased as something that would be ongoing, only for Sheridan to pull the rug out from under us in a finale that confirmed that the show’s story had reached its intended end. Instead of doing a second season, which he had never intended, the show will jump forward to depict another period of strife for the Dutton family in his upcoming series 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

That said, many of the Taylor Sheridan shows seem to exist in the same universe, and just because the saga of James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) maybe have ended, it doesn’t mean we won’t ever see them again. The same goes for some of the breakout supporting characters, including LaMonica Garrett as Thomas, a former Buffalo soldier-turned-Pinkerton agent. He serves as the partner and conscience for Sam Elliot’s grizzled Shea Brennan. As the show ended, Thomas was very much alive, but to hear Garrett tell it, due to the era’s racial policies, his character was in store for a long, dramatic road ahead of him, and one that Sheridan, at some point, may want to depict. Will we check in on Thomas (or his descendants) at some point? Garrett seems hopeful as he tells us in this exclusive new interview time to promote the show’s release on Blu-ray/ DVD. You can order it here!

Do you think some of the characters from 1883 will show up in other Taylor Sheridan projects? Let us know in the comments.
