You Should Have Left trailer traps Bacon and Seyfried in a haunted house

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In a new psychological thriller from Blumhouse Productions, Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried star as a couple seeking a restful vacation on an isolated edge of the world only to discover that secrets demand a reckoning … and travel with you. In this terrifying, mind-twisting tale, a father fights desperately to save his family from a beautiful home that refuses to let them leave.

Here's the official synopsis for YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT:

Theo Conroy (Bacon) is a successful middle-aged man whose marriage to his much younger actress wife, Susanna (Seyfried) is shredding at the seams, frayed by her secretiveness, his jealousy, and the shadow of his past.

In an effort to repair their relationship, Theo and Susanna book a vacation at a stunning, remote modern home in the Welsh countryside for themselves and their six-year-old daughter, Ella (Avery Essex). What at first seems like a perfect retreat distorts into a perfect nightmare when Theo’s grasp on reality begins to unravel and he suspects that a sinister force within the house knows more than he or Susanna have revealed, even to each other.

Serving as both director and writer for YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT is David Koepp, whose previous directorial efforts include films like SECRET WINDOW, STIR OF ECHOES, and MORTDECAI. Ah, but don't let that last film get you down. Even if MORTDECAI is often hailed as one of the worst films of 2015, Koepp also has a series of outstanding writing credits to his name, such as being a contributing writer to films the likes of JURASSIC PARK, SPIDER-MAN, and the David Fincher-directed PANIC ROOM. Plus, Koepp gave us STIR OF ECHOES (Buy Here), which remains one of horror's more intense films over the past several decades.

YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT is based on the novel by best-selling German literary sensation Daniel Kehlmann (Measuring the World), with production being handled by the grandmaster of terror Jason Blum (THE INVISIBLE MAN, HALLOWEEN, THE PURGE franchise), Kevin Bacon, and Dean O'Toole. Meanwhile, Jeanette Volturno, Couper Samuelson and Derek Ambrosi will executive produce.

In addition to today's trailer, a new poster for the film was also release, which shows Bacon and Seyfried contemplating an escape from their newly acquired haunted home.

YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT will arrive On Demand everywhere on June 19.
