In honor of its 35th Anniversary (and impending release on Blu-ray), AMC theaters is bringing back the one, the only TAXI DRIVER for just two days in select theaters across North America. Martin Scorsese’s hypnotic, nightmarish look at 1970s New York and the disturbed loner who travels its streets striving to make a difference will be projected in Sony 4K Digital for two showings only (Saturday, MARCH 19th at 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, MARCH 22nd at 8:00 p.m.) at 146 AMC theaters. For a full list of the participating theaters, head right on over HERE.

A billion words have been written about the stirring experience that is TAXI DRIVER, so I won’t have to add too many. It’s one of those movies that never gets old (even though it’s something of a time capsule), never loses its intensity, never ceases to be one of the important works of American cinema. The acting – De Niro’s performance is alternately scary, disturbing, sad and amusing – is spot on, the score (by Bernard Herrman) is genius, the streets of New York City have never looked so foreboding and Paul Schrader has never again written a screenplay filled with such brilliant moments of shock and despair, not to mention insight into the complexities of human nature. Yet for all its vivid creepiness, it’s an invigorating and challenging movie, every time you sit down to take it all in.
And if you haven’t seen it..? Look, no judgments. Just get your ass to the theater on either the 19th or the 22nd, and we won’t talk about how you’ve been living your life without the spectre of Travis Bickle in it these many years…
