Zendaya shares an image of her Dune character, Chani Kynes

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I'm not very familiar with the overall career of actress/singer/model/former Disney Channel star Zendaya, but I do like her performance as the M.J. character in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME, so I'm glad she's in the cast of director Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel DUNE.

Zendaya is taking on the role of Chani Kynes, who is described as being the "dream girl" of lead character Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet. We got the first look at her Chani in an image that was released by Vanity Fair a couple days ago, and since then Zendaya has taken to her Instagram account to share another image of her in character as Chani. This image can be seen below.

DUNE tells the story of Paul Atreides,

a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Chalamet and Zendaya are joined in the cast by Rebecca Ferguson as his mother Lady Jessica, Oscar Issac as Paul's father Duke Leto Atreides, Javier Bardem as helpful tribe leader Stilgar, Josh Brolin as troubadour-swordsman Gurney Halleck, Jason Momoa as swordmaster Duncan Idaho, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as ecologist Doctor Liet Kynes, Stellan Skarsgård as the villainous Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as Harkonnen's brutish nephew Glossu Rabban, Charlotte Rampling as the emperor's truthsayer Reverend Mother Mohiam, David Dastmalchian as the twisted Piter De Vries, and Chang Chen as Atreides family physician Dr. Yueh.

Villeneuve directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, and produced it with Mary Parent and Cale Boyter. Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull, and Kim Herbert served as executive producers. Kevin J. Anderson was the creative consultant.

DUNE is set to reach theatres on December 18th.
