Zombies sans Hooper

Fango scored info on what Tobe Hooper fans have been want to know for some time: What happened to ZOMBIES?

For those who don’t know, Hooper was going to direct the Millennium/Nu Image film about widow Karen Tunny (played by Lori Heuring) and her two daughters, Sarah and Emma, who move to a remote mountain home which Karen has inherited from the family of her late husband. Problem is, the home is situated near an old mine, the site of an early 20th century tragedy in which children were buried alive. The script was penned by Adam Gierasch and Jace Anderson, the same dudes who wrote Hooper’s TOOLBOX MURDERS script.

For a long time, that’s all that anyone knew about the film. Other than IMDB’s production dates for the film, nothing else happened. Well, according to Fangoria, the movie was made, but not with Hooper at the helm. Nor was the Gierasch/Anderson script used. Currently in post, the film was directed by THE FORSAKEN’s J.S. Cardone, and still stars Heuring, along with Geoffrey Lewis (THE DEVIL’S REJECTS) and Chloe Moretz (THE AMITYVILLE HORROR remake). No word on a release date (IMDB lists ‘2006’), and no reason why Hooper was dropped along with the script. Keep an eye out for this one, if it doesn’t disappear again, that is.
