Holy batarang! Batman 3 is coming in 2012

So you want to know when you’re going to get to see the next BATMAN film?

Well, Warner Bros. has set the third film in the franchise to release on July 20, 2012 in conventional and IMAX screens. The announcement was made this morning in regards to the series.

No other details were given.

Wow. I figured that maybe they would release in 2013 or something. There’s been so few details on the third installment. For awhile it sounded like a follow-up film was never going to get made.

Christopher Nolan did talk with the LA Times back in March about the next film saying, “Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story.”

He continued about the conclusion, “I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these thing don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling. And it hearkens back to that priority of trying to find the reality in these fantastic stories. That’s what we do.”

The rumors will now start to flood…as if they weren’t already. Miley Cyrus for Catwoman! (It’s just a joke. Calm down.)
