A24 and DirectTV have acquired all U.S rights to Gilles Paquet-Brenner's Charlize Theron-starring DARK PLACES, based on the novel by GONE GIRL author Gillian Flynn, according to Variety.

We've been keeping an eye on DARK PLACES, which also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Christina Hendricks, Tye Sheridan and Corey Stoll, bringing you casting updates on this thriller and also sharing the first look at Theron in character almost one year ago. It sounds like it could be another taut and suspenseful tale from Flynn, whose GONE GIRL was a big hit for director David Fincher earlier this year. Here's what DARK PLACES concerns:

DARK PLACES tells the story of Libby Day (Theron), a woman who, at the age of 7, survives the massacre of her family and testifies against her brother as the murderer. Twenty-five years later, a group obsessed with solving notorious crimes confronts her with questions about the horrific event. Told in a series of flashbacks from the points of view of Libby’s mother, Patty, and her brother, Ben, Libby is forced to revisit that fateful day and begins to question what exactly she saw – or didn’t see – the night of the tragedy.

DARK PLACES is co-financed by Exclusive Media and Cuatro Plus Films. Exclusive Media is producing with Stephane Marsil of Hugo Films, Charlize Theron’s Denver and Delilah Productions partners Beth Kono and AJ Dix; and Mandalay’s Cathy Schulman and Matt Rhodes. Exclusive Media’s Matt Jackson is producing, with the company’s Guy East, Nigel Sinclair, Tobin Armbrust and Alex Brunner Executive Producing. Peter Safran is also serving as an Executive Producer.

No word yet as to when we can expect to see DARK PLACES release, but we'll keep ya posted.
