Andy Serkis to replace David Tennant in John Landis’ Burke and Hare

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

Simon Pegg has just informed the world via Twitter that David Tennant has dropped out of BURKE AND HARE, the John Landis-directed film about murderers William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their victims to a doctor for his lectures. Fear not however; in the very same tweet, Pegg announces Tennant’s replacement: one Andy Serkis.

Tweet in full: David Tennant had to drop out of B&H but by sheer glorious serendipity a legend of Middle Earth and Skull Island has come aboard. Welcome AS

You could certainly do a lot worse than Serkis, who is really a great character actor and more than just a dude in a motion-capture suit. (Check out his terrific performance in THE COTTAGE if you need proof.) Ironically, he just worked with Pegg on THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN (from the powerhouse team of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson), which unfortunately doesn’t come out until December of 2011. Here’s hoping we see BURKE AND HARE a lot sooner…
