Cool Horror Gear: The Black Christmas score hits vinyl for the first time

12.02.2015by: Brennan Klein

Here's something to put on your Christmas list! BLACK CHRISTMAS, one of the original slasher films (released just one week after the original TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE in 1974), is getting its score put out by Waxwork Records for the first time on any format. The vinyl record is the result of a year-long quest with Carl Zittrer to find the original master recordings, which were thought to be lost or destroyed.

Evidently, they weren't. Nobody is telling where they actually found the recordings (my current theory is that it was bundled in plastic wrap in the attic of a Canadian haunted house), but Zittrer has sat down with them to create a cohesive soundtrack experience that has been missing from the horror world for over 40 years.

BLACK CHRISTMAS was directed by Bob Clark, who also directed A CHRISTMAS STORY in one of the genre's most amusing strokes of irony. In the film:

A group of sorority sisters are receiving threatening phone calls, while being stalked and murdered during the holiday season by a deranged murderer hiding in the attic of their sorority house.

Check out the album artwork (and a trailer using the original title SILENT NIGHT, EVIL NIGHT) below! Pre-orders for this record begin Friday, December 4th on the Waxwork Records web site.
